Two day tour in Dapeng Bay and Little Liuqiu
Dapeng Bay is located on the southwestern coast of Taiwan and faces Little Liuqiu across the sea. It is the largest sac-shaped lagoon in Taiwan. Above the only channel connecting to the sea is the famous Dapeng Bay Bridge. The bridge looks like a sail when viewed from the side. There are bridge opening shows every Saturday, Sunday, and on national holidays. The rich ecology of Dapeng Bay attracts all kinds of resident and migratory birds to forage for food. The beautiful posture attracts people to stop. In the late Japanese occupation period, it was a military base with a history of kamikazes. After the liberation, it was also used as an air force barracks. In addition, there are water activities and racetracks, so it is a good place for a variety of cycling tours. For this itinerary, it is recommended to take the Kaohsiung MRT to Siaogang Station, and then follow the Western Coastal Highway of rovincial highway 17 to Donggang and Dapeng Bay. After cycling around Dapeng Bay, stay in Donggang for one night. In addition to enjoying local seafood delicacies, you can also visit Donglong Temple for the King's Peace Ceremony. The next morning, take a 30-minute ferry to Little Liuqiu at the Donggang ferry terminal. Little Liuqiu is the only coral reef island in Taiwan. It is an easy route to go around the island by bicycle — about 12 kilometers. Because it is located in the southwest of Taiwan, it is not affected by the northeast monsoons in the winter, so it is very suitable for slow cycling during this season. It is recommended to follow the road around the island in a counterclockwise direction to enjoy the beautiful island, then take the ferry back to Donggang, and ride to Linbian Station to complete this unforgettable journey.
