Round trip at Cishan, Meinong, and Liugui
This is a circular route located near the tail end of the Jade Mountain Range, one of the five major mountain ranges in Taiwan. It connects the Cishan district, Meinong district, Liugui district of Kaohsiung City, and Gaoshu Township of Pingtung County with several circular routes mainly amongst Hakka settlements. In addition to the Geological Landscape of the Shiba Luohan Mountain (Luohanshan) with Liugui, there is also Cishan Old Street, which was once developed due to the sugar industry and banana production and sales; Meinong Tobacco Barn and the artistic creation of paper umbrellas due to agriculture and tobacco planting; and Liugui Old Street was developed due to camphor harvesting and forestry in the early years. This itinerary is based on the above themes, starting from Cishan, first visiting Cishan Old Street, Cishan Station, and then crossing the main branch of Gaoping River – Chishan River, to Meinong Plain at the southern end of Jade Mountain. Here, first slow down to visit Meinong Old Street, and after going around the Meinong Lake Ring Road, follow the Taiwan provincial highway 27 and turn to Taiwan provincial highway 27A to visit Liugui Old Street via Shiba Luohan Mountain (Luohanshan). When entering the return journey from Liugui, it is recommended to cross the Liugui Bridge to the left bank of the Laonong River. When going south along the stream from the left bank, you can enjoy the special geological landscape around Shiba Luohan Mountain (Luohanshan) from another angle. Finally, arrive at the Cishan Sugar Factory via Meinong, enjoy the delicious ice products of the sugar factory, and appreciate the cultural relics of the century-old sugar factory. While admiring the wonderful cultural, geographical and geological landscapes at the end of the Jade Mountain Range, complete a challenging and in-depth bicycle trip in southern Taiwan.
