Ling Po-Guantian, Chianan Irrigation Channel line
Guantian district is located in the north of central Tainan and on the southeast side of the JiaNan Plain. For local agricultural irrigation, many ponds and canals of various sizes have been dug in Guantian and its surrounding areas. Among them, the largest and most historic ones are Wushantou Dam and Chianan Irrigation Channel. The Chianan Irrigation Channel was designed by Mr. Hatta Yoichi, an engineer from Taiwan's Governor's Office during the Japanese colonial period. The Wushantou Dam, which supplies water to the JiaNan area, is located in Guantian. The water flows north and south from the reservoir and utilizes the JiaNan Plain. The feature of the terrain falling from east to west irrigated the entire plain and became the lifeblood of agricultural development. In addition to the water conservancy facilities with deep historical significance, the hot and humid climate and abundant water sources in Guantian are very suitable for the growth of water chestnuts. In addition to being the most critical specialty in this area, vast water chestnut fields characterize the landscape here. From time to time, you can see the pheasant-tailed jacana, known as the Lingbo Fairy, walking in the fields and it is both interesting and moving, so it is a good route to travel in Tainan by bicycle. This itinerary can start from Longtian Station. First, go to Guantian Pheasant-tailed Jacana Ecological Education Park to learn more about the ecology of the jacana, and then go to the water chestnut field to enjoy the tour, then go to Wushantou Dam to buy tickets to enter the park. Initially go to appreciate the reservoir, and then visit Hatta Yoichi Museum, Bronze Statue and other related attractions one by one, and finally detour to Chishan Longhuyan Temple, Siraya National Scenic Area management office, and then return to Longtian Station to complete a small bicycle tour of Tainan's history, culture and environment.
