Riding in Chianan Irrigation Channel
Located in the JiaNan Plain, Chianan Irrigation Channel has been one of the most important water conservancy projects since the Japanese colonial period. It was originally planned and constructed by Mr. Hatta Yoichi, a water conservancy engineer from the Taiwan Governor's Office, and completed in 1930. The irrigation area of Chianan Irrigation Channel crosses Taiwan's primary agricultural area, which is today's Yunlin county, Chiayi county, and Tainan city, and covers an area of 150,000 hectares. Thanks to this great water conservancy project, the JiaNan Plain has become the most important granary in Taiwan, and it has also brought together the active and hardworking rural areas of Taiwan. In the past, due to the complicated roads, it was not easy to go deep into the rural areas of the JiaNan Plain by bicycle, but now bicycle paths have been built along the waterways of Taiwan's agricultural bloodline. The 88-kilometer-long Irrigation Channel green road bikeway that runs through the JiaNan Plain, rides on this fertile soil in the most leisurely way and exposes visitors to a deep understanding of Taiwan's rural areas. This itinerary can start from Longtian Station and arrive at the Jianan Management Office Divergent Workstation in Guantian. It starts from the divergence point of the southern and northern trunk lines of Chianan Irrigation Channel, and goes all the way along the Irrigation Channel green road bikeway next to the northern trunk line toward the north, turning towards Chiayi city for a rest. Continue north the next day. Arrive at the end of the Farming and Irrigation Artifacts Museum in Linnei township, Yunlin county, with the famous Bagua Pool and the fiery Bald Cypress on both sides of the waterway, then leisurely go to Ershui Station in Changhua county to take the bicycle-friendly train to leave. Of course, if you are planning a trip around the island, this route of riding the Chianan Plain is also a route that can replace the traditional route around the island, so it is recommended for riders who love in-depth travel.
