East Rift Valley is a valley about 180 kilometers long from north to south formed by the meeting of the Eurasian continental plate and the Philippine Sea plate. It is located between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. It is named after crossing Hualien and Taitung Counties. The air is relatively good due to the barrier of the central mountain range and the influence of the climate, the agriculture in the valley is well developed, and because the East Rift Valley is a very special topographical landscape in Taiwan, it has become an important tourist center. In addition, because Hualien City and Taitung City are located at the north and south ends of the Rift Valley, they have become the transportation hubs in the east. Towns such as Guangfu, Ruisui, Yuli, Chishang, Guanshan, and Luye not only have their own sightseeing characteristics, but also have bicycle-friendly train stations. The train station is very suitable for starting at Hualien City and ending in Taitung City for the East Rift Valley Riding Tour. This itinerary can start from Hualien Station. Go south along Provincial Highway 9, and then take a detour to the bicycle paths or field trails distributed among the valleys. In terms of accommodation, it is recommended to use the hotel in HualienRuisui hot spring area as the accommodation point on the first day, and TaitungChishang as the accommodation point on the second day. In this way, when there are few tourists in the early morning of the third day, you can easily ride to visit Brown Boulevard and Dapo Pond, and then continue southward, pass through Guanshan, Luye, and other places, and end the trip at Taitung Station.
Regarding scenic spot theme selection, the valley has a different appearance each season, such as rape blossoms and cosmos flower seas in mid-January, golden rice waves before the rice harvests around June and November, and Luye Highland in July, and the hot air balloon season in August.
